Mass Intentions

The tradition of offering a Mass Intention is a deeply meaningful and ancient Catholic practice. Since the Holy Mass is the greatest and most powerful prayer of the Church, having a Mass offered for a specific intention is a powerful way to intercede for the living, pray for the dead, and give thanks to God.

Mass Intentions may be requested for:

• The Repose of the Soul of the Deceased: This is the most common intention. The graces of the Mass are applied to aid the soul of the departed, especially those in Purgatory, in their journey toward eternal rest with God. As the Catechism of the Catholic Church states, the Church offers the Eucharistic sacrifice for the dead "so that, thus purified, they may attain the beatific vision of God" (CCC 1032).

• The Intentions of the Living: You can request a Mass for a living person (e.g., a loved one who is sick, celebrating a birthday or anniversary, or facing a personal struggle), asking for God's healing, grace, and strength for them.

• Thanksgiving: Masses can be offered to thank God for blessings received or for a specific favor granted.

 

Your Personal Intentions
It is important to remember that every person attending Mass is invited to offer up their own personal intentions as well.By virtue of your baptism, you participate in the offering of the Holy Sacrifice, and you should bring your own prayers, joys, sorrows, and petitions to the altar and unite them with the perfect sacrifice of Christ.

How to request a Mass Intention and/or a Mass Card:

• We do NOT accept in-person Mass Requests. Requests can be made via phone (610-272-0402), email (admin@sfanorristown.com) or by using the online Mass Request Form below.

• The traditional stipend for an Announced Mass is $10. Payment can be made when you come to pick up your Mass Card, or it can be mailed to the office (601 Buttonwood St. Norristown, PA 19401), placed in an envelope in the collection basket with your name and the date of the requested Mass, or it can be dropped off in the secure mailbox in front of the Parish Center.

• Please note: When our Mass Book opens, we are only accepting requests for the FIRST HALF of the calendar year (January-June). Once these Masses are full, we will open the Mass Book for the SECOND HALF of the calendar year (July-December). 

• A household is limited to 8 Masses per year. This includes 2 Masses on a Sunday or Saturday Vigil, and 6 weekday Masses. This is to ensure that all of our parishioners have a chance to request Masses.

• Masses are not taken on Wednesday, Holy Days of Obligation, Easter, or Christmas.
